Happy 60th, Pop!
It's not uncommon to hear someone exclaim in horror, "Oh my God, I'm turning into my father!" We all feel it, I suppose, the recognition of something in ourselves we thought belonged only to our parents. The thing is, whenever I feel it, it only makes me smile. After all, who better to turn into?
A 60th birthday is a momentous occasion, but I must admit that he seems like the same person I met 34 years ago: inquisitive, passionate, playful and fair-minded. Now that I am standing on the threshold of my own fatherhood, I'm seeing this person in a new light. Will I be as good a father as he has been and continues to be? Will I be able to pass on those qualities I admire so much in him? One can only hope.
Happy birthday, Pop! Thank you for all of your blessings. Here's to many more happy years of playing with the world and making it a better place!
