Products & Behavior

I most value products that enable positive behavior patterns in me.

For instance, I have an iPod Shuffle on order, and beyond the usual "new toy" excitement, I'm anticipating that it will encourage two behaviors that I feel are important: seeking out new music, and actually leaving the house from time to time (on the downside, it might discourage me from talking to people while I'm out there).

Next time you're shopping, ask yourself, "What behavior patterns does this product encourage? Do I consider those patterns positive?" If you design products, ask yourself those same questions about the things you're making.
